Today we took a ferryboat to Vasa-Museum. Vasa, a huge warship built from wood – over 1000 oak trees – and beautifully decorated and painted sank on her maiden voyage on August 10th 1628 in Stockholm harbour and stayed there in clay and mud for 333 years before it was salvaged in 1961. weiterlesen Vasa Museum
Of course we’ve already seen a nice bit of Stockholm. This afternoon we met with Marianne (5W), went for a coffee and a kardemummebullar… weiterlesen Stockholm with Marianne (5W)
A nice place Eva hat written, with the best cakes… so we drove the extra turn to the castle. A nice place, indeed, on the water with a great view – but unfortunately very crowded. The queue was waiting to get in for coffee and cake… and it was long. weiterlesen Taxinge slottet (Taxinge castle)
Since we passed through Eskilstuna we stopped for a walk through the center of the town, although Eva, my penpal was not at home.
I liked the water and the walk around, as well as the old buildings there. weiterlesen Eskilstuna
Li had offered to show us a bit of Stockholm on this Sunday morning, so we met at 10 am on Hötorget (Haymarket).
First we bought our tickets for public transport – and we used them all today: bus, ferryboat, tram, metro, bus again… on a big round:
Bus nr. 2 along Kungsträdgården, past Kungliga slottet (the king’s castle), past Slussen (the locks). At Fotografiska (Katarinavägen) we have a perfect view down to the water and over to Djurgården, Skeppsholmen and Gamla Stan (the old city). The next bus (nr. 2) brings us down to the water. With the ferryboat we set over to Hammarby Sjöstad, a newer part of town. Planned originally for older people they wanted to leave the busy city but still live in Stockholm, instead settled by families with children… By tram, metro and bus we got back to Stadhuset and to Gamla Stan, the old city. On our way back to Hötorget we passed at the castle again. weiterlesen Stockholm
Today we continue to Stockholm (200 km). There is certainly something for everyone in Stockholm. We will definitely take a tour through the old town of Gamla Stan and visit the German Church, the Knights‘ House, considered the most beautiful Baroque building in Stockholm, the cathedral and the Royal Palace. In the winding streets there are numerous cafes and restaurants to relax. We also have time to visit the Concert House, where Nobel Prizes are awarded annually, the National Museum in Neo-Renaissance style and the Vasa Museum with the historic warship Vasa.
A trip by steamboat to the World Heritage Site Castle Drottningholm is recommended. After an hour’s drive through the arms of the Mälaren you reach the residence of the royal family. weiterlesen Stockholm
